Project
PROJECT DURATION: 2 Weeks
TOOLS:
UX- Hand drawing, Sketch
DESIGN- Adobe Illustrator
A mobile application that targets the chronic conditions of patients that need to go back to the hospital for a return visit.
Purpose of The Project
The reason I came up with this idea is that normally patients require a return visit after three months to discuss their situation and well-being with their doctor. After each discussion, the patient needs to make an appointment to have other medical procedures, such as a CT scan, MRI, or X-Ray, for further checking. I believe there are better ways to manage these procedures.
Processes:
Research > Brainstorming & Wireframing > Mid-fid prototype > Evaluation
> High-fid prototype > Design documentaition
PHASE 1: COMPETITORS & USER RESEARCH
RESEARCH PROCESS
Before I came up with this idea, I had conducted secondary research to better understand competitors in the market. Right now, current competitors only focus on a specific purpose, such as allowing the patient to record their pain, store the medical history of an entire family, and assist patients with making appointments with a doctor. However, those applications are not good enough for the patient.
For knowing better the issue and patients’ pain points, I have interviewed four patients in the real world. All patients mention that the distance from their home to the hospital is the first pain point. The second is a fear of the hospital since most patients have stayed in the hospital while their disease was being treated, for long periods. All patients mention that the experiences of fought illnesses and diseases in the hospital are nightmares in their life.
PHASE 2: BRAINSTORMING & WIREFRAMING
In this phase, I have leveraged the information collected from the primary research and secondary research to brainstorm the features and create the wireframes of the applications.
THE IDEA OF SEE MD
I came up with the idea of a way of providing them the opportunity to meet with their doctor online. After the patient meets their doctor, they will be able to view their report and doctor’s suggestions online. Besides, the patients can order the medication via this application. Moreover, in the case of an emergency, they can show the information in the app to others to understand their medical history, along with their emergency contact.
PHASE 3: PROTOTYPING
Before I jump to create the high-fid prototype, we created a mid-fid prototype and brought it to class and holding a design critique to our class.
The initial design shouldn’t be my perfect design for this project.
After the critique, I have received a lot of feedback from my peers. Therefore, I got into the iteration process and keep improving my design.
PHASE 4: FINALIZING & CREATING DOCUMENTATION
After some prototyping adjustments and user tests, the first version of the application was born.
Design Ration
Since I’ve considered the pain and fear of patients, coming up with the idea of designing an affectionate app that leads them to feel calm while they are meeting their doctor. The goal is to provide a feeling of professionalism, ease of use, and importance for the users.
Learnings
- One of my biggest learnings from this project was how to manage the time and complete all deliverables in time.
- Being able to understand my users and their pain points by using different research methods.
- The last but not the least thing I learned was a genuine interest in the work you’re doing will be the biggest motivation. Since this is an assignment for my User Interface course (INF2191), I can base on my passion area and select the topic that I felt interested in. And I really enjoy the design process, and also the design critique experiences with my peers.
